La
biblioteca municipal de Cusco existe-¡yay!- y es público. Hace 2 semanas que
vague en dentro el edificio que tiene muchas escaleras y un patio. Desafortunadamente,
no es una biblioteca de préstamo come en mi estado; los libros están escondidos
y solamente los bibliotecarios tienen acceso a estos. Todavía usa los catálogos
de tarjetas, entonces los bibliotecarios tiene el poder de conocimiento y de cómo
buscar el conocimiento. Los patrones se sientan en las salas de leer en frente
de los escritorios de madera con superficies inclinadas, leyendo en silencio.
Por suerte, los bibliotecarios no se les suben los humos a las cabezas.
Le hable a un señor simpático y luego descubrí que él es un bibliotecario.
Hablamos por 15 minutos en el patio interior del edificio de la importancia de
aprender para todos la vida, viajar y explorar otras culturas cuando tiene el
tiempo. ¡Amen, hermano!

The Cusco city library exists- yay!- and is open to the public. Two weeks ago I wandered into the building, which has many hallways, staircases, and a courtyard/patio inside. Unfortunately, it's not a lending library like those in my state; the books are hidden and only the librarians have access to them. They still use old-fashioned card catalogues, not computers for searching, so the librarians have all the power of knowledge of the books and how to find it. The patrons sit in reading rooms in fronte of wooden desks with tilted tops, reading in silence. Luckily, the librarians don't let the power go to their heads. I spoke with a kindly gentleman and later discovered he was a librarian. We talked for 15 minutes or so about the importance of lifelong learning, travel, and exploration of other cultures when you have the time. Amen, brother!
